In March 2002, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry first reported to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that five babies born between April 2000 and January 2001 in the United States had been diagnosed with a brain tumor commonly known as posterior fossa ependymoma in the cerebellum, the tectal plate of the brain. The lesions had all been treated surgically. The babies, who were mostly twins, were all born between 4 and 22 weeks' gestation and who were less than 1 pound 3 ounces in weight. The parents of these babies had either never used mobile phones or had only used them for a maximum of 5 minutes a day. To collect information on these babies, CDC asked Gribble: What should be done with the children? What were the families thinking? How is this unusual occurrence---which is not expected---to affect future cases? What can be learned from this experience? From these questions and answers, The Time Stoppers was created. The resulting book is a literary homage to childhood and family, and a touching, personal tribute to the miracle of childhood itself. d2c66b5586
