Hit The Sack

The idiom is thought to have been inspired by the fact that bedding was originally made out of hay stuffed into a cloth sack. The phrase can be used in a wide variety of situations, ranging from conversations with friends about something that happened to you to one expressing their desire to collapse in bed to co-workers after a long day.
But, while data suggests that women often struggle with weight gain more than men, it's possible that men are more prone to packing on pounds when they don't hit the sack. Researchers from the University of Arizona and Harvard Medical School presented their not-yet-published findings last month at the 2016 American Association of Sleep Medicine (AASM) SLEEP conference.
It means go to bed. Linen was once the common bedding material for sheets. Believe linen sacks/storage bags (like burlap bags/hessian bags today) were once more commonly used for things like grain (linseed in the old process of extracting linseed oil) etc. Linen (flax), also the same material/fabric as was used for bed linen/sheets, pillow slips and blankets etc. The word Sac in French is translated to sack or bag in English, also similarly to \"sac\" an action, as we use \"to pillage\" so to strip ruthlessly, to steal with force. This alludes to the age old marital tug of war, over who takes too much of the bed covers and leaves the other party cold and bare, like a plundered village, shivering in the cold night of winter.
Following a career-high 10.5-sack season in 2018, four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox has been emblematic of those struggles as he's yet to tally a sack and has only two quarterback hits over two games.
\"It's going to happen. Trust me,\" Cox said via the team website. \"We're in no panic in the D-line room about getting sacks. We've hit the quarterback a lot in the past two weeks. The sacks will come and when they come, they come in bunches. We gotta be patient about it and not force it and we'll get there.\"
While only two sacks have been registered by the Eagles, Derek Barnett has 12 quarterback pressures and Brandon Graham has 10, fitting both of the Philly edge rushers in the top five in that category heading into Week 3.
A fitting test likely lies ahead on Sunday as the Lions have allowed ironman quarterback Matthew Stafford to be sacked but three times. However, all three came against an underrated Cardinals' pass rush in Week 1 before the Detroit offensive line pitched a shutout against the Chargers' defensive front. The Chargers, consequently, match the Eagles with only two sacks in the season thus far.
IRVING, Texas - The Browns took down quarterback Tony Romo seven times Sunday after averaging just 2.2 sacks per game entering Cowboys Stadium. They would have finished with eight sacks had defensive back Sheldon Brown not been penalized for illegal contact in the first quarter.
Every sack that counted occurred after left tackle Tyron Smith left the game with an ankle injury, which could keep him out for an extended period of time. Unless Kevin Kowalski works in at center or one of the centers can return from injury to allow Mackenzy Bernadeau to shift back to guard, this is the likely starting group again Thursday against the Redskins.
Eight different Browns players recorded at least half a sack, and none of those players had more than two sacks on the season at the time. Romo still threw for 313 yards despite, not because of, the amount of time he had to throw.
There were a few trends in the sacks. Four of them occurred in the second half or overtime, when Romo threw the majority of his passes. Five of them occurred in shotgun formation. They weren't always the fault of the backups, though rarely could guard Nate Livings be pinpointed as the problem.
Both tackles struggled and Doug Free was partially responsible for four of the seven sacks, but no one lineman can shoulder the entire blame. Sometimes, the sacks weren't on the offensive line at all.
It's the first offensive play since allowing the sack on the previous drive, and again the only routes run fewer than 10 yards were by Vickers and Witten, who were both covered. Dez Bryant ran a deep in, Miles Austin ran a go route and neither of them were open. Defensive end Jabaal Sheard got outside of tackle Doug Free, forcing Romo to move up in the pocket. John Hughes worked around Bernadeau and right guard Derrick Dockery was too late to help. Even if the receivers did get open, Romo wouldn't have had time to deliver a pass before Hughes got to him.
The sack occurred immediately before Bryant's go-ahead touchdown reception, and again, it happened at the Browns' 19-yard line. Romo looks to his left in the shotgun with three receivers on the outside. Had the throw been there, the protection was good enough initially to get a pass off. After his pump fake, he was toast. Free's man got free inside, forcing Dockery to help. Defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin, the lineman Dockery was blocking initially, went right around Free, who stayed on his man. Rubin then took down Romo on a wide open shot, though the Cowboys salvaged the drive shortly after.
On a first-and-20 on the Browns' 28-yard line, Austin got inside his defender down the middle of the field, while Bryant beat his man on a go route by about two or three yards. By the time any of those routes opened up, Romo was in the process of being sacked and stripped.
Nobody was within 10 yards of Witten down the middle of the field on a first-and-10 pass at the Dallas 40-yard line. Romo could have hit the tight end to get near field goal range had he had a split second longer, but the Browns beat Free on the blitz for the sack. Sheard, the defensive end on Free's side, crashed inside on the play and was picked up by Dockery. The blitzing linebacker, Robertson, then blew past Free on the inside to get to Romo.
Tulane loaded the bases with none out in the fifth and broke the ice against Locke on a fielder's choice by junior Seth Henry (2-for-4). Prince started things off with a double to right center, Powell legged out a bunt and junior Anthony Scelfo was hit by a pitch to fill the sacks. Henry hit a grounder to freshman Josh Adams (Jacksonville, Fla.), who stepped on third base and threw over to Townsend at second to complete the double play as Prince came across with the initial run.
Tulane countered with six runs on six hits, two wild pitches and a walk in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead. Back-to-back singles by junior pinch hitter Aja Barto and Prince to open the stanza prompted a Florida pitching change. Bullock replaced Locke (6.0 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 3 K) and permitted a bunt to Powell that loaded the bases. The right-hander uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Barto to score and gave up an RBI single to Scelfo that brought in Price and narrowed the gap to 4-3. Henry evened the contest with a base-knock into left and Segedin earned a free pass to fill the sacks again with none out. Another wild pitch by Bullock gave the Green Wave the lead and a sacrifice fly into left field by junior Jared Dyer increased the margin to 6-4. Sophomore Tony Davis (Cooper City, Fla.) was summoned from the bullpen and struck out Honeck before sophomore Kyle Mullaney (Jacksonville, Fla.) yielded a two-out RBI single up the middle to Allain to put the Gators down by three runs.
The Lions forced two stalled drives by Cornell to start the third quarter, including a fumble recovery by Brian DeVeau and a huge, highlight-reel sack by Ryan Murphy, which led Columbia starting a drive at their own 14 with just 5:04 left in the third.
It was a stellar game for the Lions all the way around. Garrett rushed for a season-high 187 yards and one touchdown, becoming the first Columbia running back since 2001 to have four 100+ rushing-yard games in one season. Brackett threw for 193 yards and a trio of scores, two of which landed in the hands of the first-year Connors. Connors finished with 84 yards on six catches with two touchdowns. Mike Waller led the Lions with 10 tackles (seven solo) and a sack, while Martin notched three of Columbia's six sacks, while adding two additional tackles. 59ce067264
